A significant part of my work revolves around collecting and transforming found or received objects, often presented in grid patterns. The grid informs the space to be both autonomous and purposeful. Each object documents a trace of human existence and is transformed through the addition of new materials. In my piece 24, I transform collected prescription bottles into candles. This work speaks to the weight of chronic illness—the relentless nature of pain and the ongoing dependence on daily medication. The inclusion of 24 candles references the constant, 24-hour cycle of pain and the necessity of medication to function. In the installation, the candles burn like a ticking clock, gradually melting the plastic bottles until the light extinguishes, symbolizing the exhaustion and depletion that comes with chronic illness, until ultimate death.
